Daniel Barry – or Danie, as he is known – is leading the scientific team that is conducting the stem-cell experiment with Mark in space.
Dr Barry is with the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Stellenbosch. He has studied at the universities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch, and has attained his PhD in embryo culture from the latter. He is fluent in English, Afrikaans, Dutch and German, and will get to practise his limited Russian knowledge while at Star City.
