Yuri Gagarin was by all accounts a lovely guy, with a huge heart and equally large sense of humour and occasion. This statue has tremendous symbolic importance in the Star City community. Gagarin loved to give flowers, and this is captured in the statue with him holding flowers behind his back. It became tradition to ensure that there are always fresh flowers in front of his statue, and that remains the case today.
